Sedation Dentistry in Burlington
If you suffer from anxiety during dental appointments, you’re not alone. Many people experience the same thing. We provide a range of sedation options to help you stay calm and manage your anxiety.
What kinds of procedures can be done under sedation?
Any procedure can be done under sedation. Whether to use sedation is your decision, based on your individual needs. Patients have found sedation helpful for oral hygiene appointments, tooth extractions, restorative procedures, and root canal treatment.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedatives can help you stay relaxed during treatment. We will give you an anti-anxiety medication in the chair one hour before your appointment is scheduled to start. Depending on the dosage, the sedative will provide a mild to moderate level of sedation.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is a popular and widely used dental sedative. It produces a light sedative effect that quickly wears off. We sometimes use nitrous oxide in combination with oral sedatives for patients who need a higher level of sedation.
IV Sedation
Intravenous, or IV sedation produces a high level of conscious sedation. It will make you feel extremely relaxed and you are unlikely to remember anything about your treatment.
Is Sedation Safe?
All forms of sedation are safe. Our team members are trained in administering and managing sedatives, and we also have certification in CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. While you are sedated, we’ll keep you safe by monitoring your pulse, breathing and vital signs during your appointment.
What can I expect after treatment?
You may be drowsy and disoriented after your treatment. Patients who have received oral or IV sedation will not be able to drive, so you will need to arrange a ride home from your appointment. You shouldn’t drive or make important decisions for 24 hours after your appointment.
